How It Works
At its fundamental level The Range Game is simply that – a game, just another way to enjoy the game of Golf.
The Range Game provides the structure and frame work to compete at the range with others or with just yourself. Through our game you can “score” a round of practice at the range which you can then compare to your earlier performances or you can compare to another golfer for a fun new way to compete! The game is structured like a real round of golf so you will use all of your clubs and you will have to putt as well! The distance of your putts will depend on how well you did on each hole – just like in “real golf”!
On another level The Range Game is a powerful practice tool.
Most golfers don’t really practice enough – our hope is that a fun game will encourage people to make it out to the range more often. Those who do practice usually hit a small percentage of the clubs in their bags; they hit the same club multiple times until they get into a groove or a rhythm with that club. Most Golfers will hit their drivers to much and not putt enough. As a tool The Range Game assures that people hit their clubs in the same proportions they are like to on the course. This includes putting.
As a training tool The Range Game hopes to make practice a little more fun by adding an element of competition and tractability to it. By making more fun we hope that more people will head to the range!
Lastly, the repetitive nature of traditional golf practice clearly has its purpose but another view point suggests that a more random form of practice is also advantageous. One of the beauties of golf is how random it is; seldom do we use the same club on any successive shots. While this is the case we practice as if we have purchased a perpetual supply of Mulligan from our local best ball tournament. We will hit one club over and over and wonder why we didn’t play as well on the course as we did at our last trip to the range. The Range Game attempts to address this, it will give you a structure to practice as you play. You’ll also be able to track what clubs you hit best and what ones need the most work. You be forced to putt – remember drive for show, putt for dough!
